Pick the Unicorn Beetle Case Cover that matches your MacBook Pro size: 14-inch for portability, 16-inch for a larger display. Both share the same rugged build and precise cutouts.
Quick answer
Pick the Unicorn Beetle Case Cover that matches your MacBook Pro's exact screen size: the 14-inch model for portability and the 16-inch model for a larger display. Both use the same rugged Unicorn Beetle construction and precise cutouts, so the real difference is which laptop you own and how you carry it.
What actually changes between the 14-inch and 16-inch covers
The covers are built for different chassis dimensions, so the main difference is physical fit, not protection level. Both the 14-inch and 16-inch Unicorn Beetle Case Covers use the same durable construction and precise cutouts for ports, buttons, and vents. The 16-inch version is larger and heavier because the laptop it protects is larger, while the 14-inch version stays slimmer for easier packing. Neither case adds unnecessary bulk beyond what the laptop size requires, so your choice should start with your MacBook model, not with which case looks tougher.
How to confirm your MacBook Pro size before ordering
Open System Settings, go to General, then About, and check the model name. Apple labels these as MacBook Pro 14-inch or MacBook Pro 16-inch. You can also measure the screen diagonally, but the model name is faster and less error-prone. The Unicorn Beetle covers list compatibility ranges like 2026-2021 for the 14-inch and 2021-2026 for the 16-inch, so match your year to that range. If your MacBook is a MacBook Air 13.6 inch, neither of these Pro covers will fit; you need the Air-specific Unicorn Beetle Case Cover instead.
Portability versus screen real estate in daily use
If you commute, fly, or work from coffee shops, the 14-inch MacBook Pro and its cover are easier to slide into a backpack and less tiring to carry all day. If your laptop mostly stays on a desk and you rely on the larger display for editing, spreadsheets, or side-by-side windows, the 16-inch model and its cover make more sense. The cover itself does not change how the laptop performs; it only protects the chassis you already chose. So decide based on how you use the MacBook, then order the cover that matches.
Color and finish differences that affect your pick
The 14-inch Unicorn Beetle Case Cover comes in Tan, which hides scuffs and fingerprints better than darker finishes and gives the laptop a warmer, less generic look. The 16-inch version comes in Black, which blends with the standard MacBook Pro color and looks more understated in an office. Both finishes use the same rugged Unicorn Beetle construction. If you want a specific color, that may decide the size for you, but only if you already own the matching laptop. Do not buy a 16-inch cover for a 14-inch MacBook just to get Black; it will not fit.
Trade-offs to weigh before you buy
- 14-inch cover: portability: The 14-inch Unicorn Beetle Case Cover is slimmer and easier to pack because the laptop it fits is smaller. You give up some screen area compared with the 16-inch model, but you gain a lighter bag and easier handling on the go. Choose this if you carry your MacBook Pro daily and value a smaller footprint.
- 16-inch cover: screen space: The 16-inch Unicorn Beetle Case Cover protects a larger laptop, so it is bigger and heavier. You get more display room for multitasking, but the combined weight is noticeable if you commute often. Choose this if your MacBook Pro mostly stays on a desk and you want the larger screen.
- Color availability: The 14-inch cover comes in Tan and the 16-inch cover comes in Black. Each finish is tied to its size, so you cannot swap colors between the two. If color matters more than size, you may need to reconsider your laptop choice, not the cover. Pick the size that fits your MacBook first, then accept the available finish.
